SS 651:2019 SHMS

SS 651:2019 SHMS – Safety and Health Management System for the Chemical Industry is specifically developed for the chemical industry to address both occupational safety and health management system requirements and process safety management system requirements. 

Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC)’s timeline for migration from SS 506 Part 3 to SS 651:

SS 506: Part 3:2013 – Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Management System – Requirements for the Chemical Industry was based on the BS OHSAS 18001 standard (SS 506: Part 1) and process safety management system requirements. With the publication of ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems – Requirements with guidance for use, BS OHSAS 18001 will be withdrawn by March 2021.

Companies with SS 506 Part 3:2013 accredited certification will be given 2 years to transit to the new SS 651:2019, i.e. by 31 December 2021.

From 1 April 2020 on wards, all new (initial) certification assessments to adopt SS 651:2019 SHMS

BENEFITS OF SS 651 CERTIFICATION

Adapted to the needs of the chemical industry, SS 651 is an integration of ISO 45001 and SS 506: Part 3 process safety elements.

The purpose of SS 651 is to enable chemical companies in establishing an Safety & Health (S&H) management system to proactively eliminate hazards, minimise risk and improve S&H performance.
